day 7. sculpture garden

Objective: This is the final day of the workshop when the results of the previous days’ work are assembled together and prepared for interaction with the public.

setup

Participants bring their sculptures outside and arrange them in the garden as a group — thinking about spacing, proximity, and what someone moving through the space encounters. Cables and power sorted, stability on outdoor surfaces checked. (In case the weather does not permit the concept is changes to the greenhouse)

rehearsal

Two runs during the day with just the workshop group. First to discover what happens when everything runs simultaneously. Second to experiment — playing with speed and silence, finding the dynamics between sculptures, getting used to the controls as an instrument rather than just an on/off switch.

evening performance

As it gets dark the garden changes character — sound becomes more prominent, motors and moving parts catch available light differently. Invite an audience: museum staff, other residents, anyone around.

The performance opens with sculptures coming on one by one, fills into a period of free play where makers respond to each other in real time, and closes with sculptures dropping out one by one until the last one runs alone and then stops.
